Že mal pozno, a vseeno… naslednji v seriji Solid Steel inovativnih glasbenih/video kolažov. Tokrat sta ga skupaj spravila DJ Food & DK.

DJ Food & DK showcase the AV mix they perform live on 4 decks and 3 mixers. Using Serato’s Video-SL plug-in for Scratch Live, they mix, scratch and blend the sound AND vision for each track they play. Months were spent creating videos for each piece of music, either using the original source material or, in most cases sampling footage to create a new video entirely. Described as ‘Video Turntablism’, it has become a way for Food & DK to visualize their already legendary DJ sets. As usual, it’s the diverse mix of music that they love and are known for, taking in current club floor fillers, but also making room for classic tracks. You know how they mix audio but now you can see them tackle video as well.

Strictly Kev (aka DJ Food) je v čast Warpu namešal tole spodobno kolekcijo, ki vključuje številne epske komade, ki so v zadnjih dvajsetih leti izšli za to veličastno založbo, pa tudi veliko novejše Warp produkcije.

8. avgusta se v Klub SubSub vrača škotski mojster Boom Monk Ben. Tistim, ki so bili na prejšnjem žuru, ga ni potrebno posebej predstavljati, ostali pa si več preberite tule. S sestavljanjem svojega seta je začel že pred kakšnim tednom, saj ve, da ste zahtevna publika. :)

“I’m currently sat on a couch behind the decks at Sub Sub in Ljubljana, having just finished my set for the evening. I really can’t say how much I enjoyed myself tonight. Not only have I just played for 2.5 hours in probably the best club I’ve ever played in but the response I got for my set was just a wee bit special. They want me to play every month, which I doubt I can do but I will most certainly be back over here as often as I can. The DJ after me has just dropped Capoeira Twins ‘4×3′ - a stone cold Boom Monk classic - and it just keeps getting better. They had 3 photographers and a video recording of it so I’ll post some pictures and all that up soon.

If anyone wants to go away for a weekend then get yourself to Ljubljana. The people are fantastic and Sub Sub is sure shot. It’s great to see people that have invested time and effort into every aspect of a nightclub. It’s reminiscent of Glasgow’s Sub Club in the attention to sonic detail and quality of production but I’d go as far as to say it’s better. Massive respect to Besso, Tina and all the crew over here. You really know what you’re doing.

Medtem, ko se večina ljubljanskih klubov prepušča poletnemu spancu, bo kot naročeno svoja vrata spet odprl SubSub in s pestrim dogajanjem potešil klubskih vibeov žejno publiko. Že ta petek pride na vrsto prva osvežitev - Boom Monk Ben - škotski mojster DJevske obrti z bujno glasbeno domišljijo in dobrim občutkom za spodoben “mashup” večer.

I’m lucky enough to have found favour with Ninja Tune’s Solid Steel crew and have had many a 3 deck Boom Monk work out aired on their weekly radio show … In 2006 I kicked the arse out of Mr Scruff, Kid Koala, MANDY, James Holden, Cut Chemist, DJ Format, Hexstatic and the rest as the label and the show’s listeners voted me runner up in their ‘Best Of 2006’ Poll. I was only beaten by cut n paste in your face legend Steinski but he used Ableton for his and we all know that’s cheating.

…je zapisano nekje na webu in že zgornja zapoved pove marsikaj, Boom Monk je ta hip precej huge… med drugim ima tip do novembra že toliko bookingov, da je treba na njegovem myspace-u pošteno poskrolati navzdol, če se želimo prebiti mimo seznama vseh planiranih gigov.
